The winner of the New Music Competition in 2013 -
and Finland's Eurovision Song Contest entry is...
...Krista Siegfrids.
Krista is already planning her charm...
Finland has chosen its entry in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Congratulations, Krista.
February the 9th she won the New Music Competion or UMK.
Now she has only one aim:
To win the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö in May.
"Marry Me Europe" follows Krista as she prepares for the song contest.
First I present a few people who were there -
when Kristin Siegfrids grew up in the tiny city of Kaskinen.
Sister
This is the basic Krista.
Chairman of city council
King Gustav's Boulevard will now be Krista's Boulevard.
Mama
Often people have to be pushed to do something.
I have almost had to push the brakes
Bar owner
Krista was quite small when she was born. Less than three kilos.
But she has done well.
She is really competitive.
When she got up on the balancing beam, she decided she wouldn't fall.
Some people just have the urge to win and be the best.
Krista's musicality showed really early.
She picked up the tempo when she heard music from TV or radio.
She was really young then.
When I first sang in a hall with a mic that was connected to speakers -
that was the best thing ever.
To hear one's own voice in the speakers.
There will be a lot of customers here in the cabinet.
We'll mix a special Krista drink.
This one. - The other one!
Finnish Broadcasting Company's local news
The worst fear came true in Kaskinen. The mill will be stopped.
When the forestry company in the area closed down its mill -
unemployment figures shot up.
After four years of grey days and sad expressions -
Kaskinen has finally won in the lottery.
Or Krista has won a song contest.
The city is happy and revels in her victory.
You can say that Krista and her win -
are the best lottery prizes this city could get.
We can't afford to advertise in order to get tourists here.
Now we get advertising for free -
and something we could never have paid for ourselves.
So this is immensely important.
This welcome is really touching.
There were many good friends of my dad's there.
They started talking about him.
If only he could be here now.
When Krista was a teenager, her family had to endure many sorrows.
In a short while her dad and grandparents died.
Then her mother got sick and was hospitalized almost a year.
I can't say that all that happened wasn't of any use.
It was a sad time and we lost too many dear people in a short period.
You were also sick but all that has shaped me as a human being.
You can't undo it and of course I wish it hadn't happened.
If I could choose, nothing like that would have happened.
That was miserable.
But now I'm sitting here with ma.
My mother is a power woman.
Well, well.
Thank you for your support.
I can feel that you have rooted for me.
She has arrived on her own even if she has had a good team.
She got the win because she is good and has truly worked hard.
I'm convinced that when Krista goes to Malmö and meets the press -
everyone will know that she is from Finland.
Maybe also that she is from Kaskinen
We are following Krista Siegfrid's road to the Eurovision Song Contest.
And there's more to come soon.
